Bad Weather

Westdene will always endeavour to stay open, even in the event of bad weather, unless it has been deemed too unsafe for staff, pupils and parents to access the school (for example, in very heavy snow or icy conditions). On the rare occasion that conditions are not safe and the decision is made to close the school for the day, parents and carers will be notified by text and an announcement will be made on local radio. The text will be sent as early as possible to avoid disruption.

Local radio stations include:

Juice FM (107.2 FM) - www.juicebrighton.com [External Link]

Heart Sussex (102.4/103.5 FM) - www.heart.co.uk/sussex [External Link]

School Work

On days when the school is closed due to bad weather, school work will be uploaded onto the WOMBLE for parents and pupils to access from home. This work will be shared in the Files section on year group pages.

Cold Weather Clothing

During cold weather spells, please ensure your child comes to school wearing a named winter coat/jacket. A named pair of gloves, warm hat and scarf are also recommended. This will ensure that they are suitably dressed for the time that they spend outside before school and during playtimes.
