February 2022

Year 1 African Drumming workshops led by Jim Bernardin from World Music Workshops. These workshops linked with the children's unit exploring rhythm & pulse & were a fabulous introduction to their topic learning about West Africa. We all had SO much fun!

Wednesday 23rd February 2022

We were invited to participate in a "Cherry Trees for Schools" project organised by The Japan Society. This project is a joint venture funded by the Japanese & UK governments encouraging friendship & co-operation with the gifting of cherry trees from Japan to Uk schools & public parks. To find out more about this fabulous project click the link: https://japanuksakura.org/

We were delighted to participate in this very unique & special project. Click on the thumbnails below to see our tree planting ceremony - we included representatives from our eco-council (helping to plant the tree), year 6 members of our senior choir sang the traditional Japanese song "Sakura" as the tree was planted & 6 children from Reception who will help to care for the tree & be photographed each year with it during their time at Westdene.

Spring Concert performances - a series of 5 concerts over 3 days with performances from all our music ensembles & all children who receive instrumental lessons in school.

March 2022

Year 3 vocal workshop with early music group "The Swan Consort". This fabulous workshop was funded by Brighton Early Music Festival (BREMF) as part of their education programme BREMF Live! Click the play button to hear The Swan Consort singing & see year 3 enjoying their workshop.

April 2022

Year 6 Tribal Drums Workshops with Jim Bernardin from World Music Workshops. These workshops were the culmination of the children's learning for Spring 2 exploring the use of melodic & rhythmic repeating / cyclic patterns within music.

April 2022

Year 4 Bamboo Tamboo & Boomwhackers workshops with Ollie Tunmer from "Beat Goes On!" These workshops were an introduction to the children's unit exploring scales & melodies, taught at the beginning of the summer term.

May 2022

Year 2 Chinese Drums & Gongs Workshops with Jim Bernardin from "World Music Workshops".

The children hugely enjoyed learning about & experiencing playing music from China. These workshops linked with our unit for Summer 1 exploring timbre, tempo & dynamics. Click the play button to share in what we did:
